In my first week in Sydney, I had an assignment due, a laptop in my bag, and a craving for a proper place like a cafe to work in. It was 4 pm. Most cafes I walked past were closed, and their lights were off.

No one tells you this before you move here in Australia’s cafe open early and closed early. Back home, I could study until midnight with a cake and matcha latte.

Do you need a sweet stop in the afternoon or a study spot at night?

# Where to go when the rest of Sydney has gone home

LAB Bakery Cafe

Rhodes, Parramatta, Strathfield - Open until 9:30 pm (Fri-Sat 10 pm)

A 100% Korean-style premium bakery cafe with fresh bread, brewed coffee and cakes.

This place is easily the most study-friendly place on this list. Order a drink, pick a pastry, and let it help you finish your work.

You’ll see a lot of students studying in this place with a cozy vibe.

Eastwood - Open until 9 pm (Fri-Sat 10 pm)

This is where you go when you finish if you live near the City of Ryde. There are so many Korean pastries that you will stand there for five minutes just choosing. Start with the Butter Tteok, crispy, crunchy and chewy and their own-style cake.

It opens at 6 am too, so it works for early morning people as well. In the morning, you can see more pastries and smell fresh-baked bread.

# Before the Night Shift

Buttered Korean Cafe

Chippendale - 9 am-5 pm (Sun-Thu), 9 am-7 pm (Fri-Sat)

Salt bread, butter-heavy tissue bread and cube-shaped croissants with layers you might see on TikTok. The price starts from $5.5 up to $15. If you want a small sweet treat for yourself before lecture or tutorial, these places would be the best. Grab a paper bag and take it with you. Friday and Saturday give you two extra hours, so that’s the best time to study before dinner time.

ENZE Cafe

Have you ever tried chiffon cake? It feels like a cloud cake.

ENZE chiffon cakes are so light they feel real, with Asian-inspired flavours like strawberry mochi and jasmine and mandarin. You can pick up a slice on your way, then fill up your sugar level before starting your assignment.

Sydney cafes may close early, but your assignment deadline doesn’t care. Save these places for your next late-night assignment, and leave a comment on which one you’re trying first. ☕🍰
