Your deadlines are scary enough. Your Halloween plans should at least be fun.
Halloween falls on Saturday this year, giving Sydney the perfect excuse to turn one night of questionable costume choices into a whole weekend.

There are horror films beneath the Opera House sails, haunted harbour adventures and dancefloors where your emergency cat ears will finally get some use.
Send this to the group chat, choose your level of chaos and make a plan.
Ghost in The Rocks: big Halloween energy, student-friendly entry

For the friend group that can’t agree on anything, start here. Ghost in The Rocks transforms the historic precinct into a Halloween playground, with markets, roaming performers, live music and spooky experiences scattered through the laneways.
Festival entry is free, so you can soak up the atmosphere without committing your grocery budget. Selected experiences, including the outdoor Ghost Cinema at Cadmans Cottage, require separate tickets. Come in costume, wander the markets and see where the night takes you.
When: Thursday 29 October–Sunday 1 November 2026, 4–11pm daily; some ticketed activities run outside these hours.
Where: Across The Rocks, including Playfair Street and Cadmans Cottage.
More information: Ghost in The Rocks
Hellhouse: for the horror fan with a Letterboxd account

A Halloween film night at the Sydney Opera House feels like a strong argument for leaving your laptop at home. Hellhouse’s program moves from cult classics to contemporary nightmares, with titles including Exhuma, Pan’s Labyrinth, Evil Dead II and The Babadook.
Pick one screening for a spooky date or build your Halloween around a cinema session. You still get the tension, the monsters and the collective jump scares, with the added luxury of sitting down.
When: Screenings on Tuesday 27, Wednesday 28, Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October 2026. Times vary by film.
Where: Sydney Opera House, Bennelong Point, Sydney.

Halloscream: put the brave friend to the test

Everyone has a mate who claims horror films “aren’t even scary”. Take them to Luna Park and let them lead the way.
Halloscream combines rides after dark with three Halloween attractions: Escape the Circus, The Forgotten Children scare maze and the Alienation immersive game. General admission includes unlimited rides on operating attractions, making this a proper evening out for anyone who likes their harbour views with a raised heart rate.
When: Thursday 29–Saturday 31 October 2026, 6–10pm; confirm entry details when booking.
Where: Luna Park Sydney, 1 Olympic Drive, Milsons Point.

Electric Nation Halloween Edition: golden hour into dancefloor hours

If your ideal Halloween soundtrack involves house music, Electric Nation has your Friday sorted. Topic, Bag Raiders, Yolanda Be Cool and KLP feature on the bill for this open-air festival at Tumbalong Park.
Arrive for the sunset, bring the friends who always gravitate towards the speakers and wear a costume you can actually dance in. Elaborate cardboard constructions may struggle here.
When: Friday 30 October 2026, 5–11.30pm.
Where: Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour.
More information: Electric Nation Halloween Edition.
Screamfest Sydney: campus gets a Halloween makeover

Usually, the scariest thing at uni is opening your results. On Halloween, Manning gets some competition.
Screamfest promises multiple music stages, haunted attractions, scare zones, roaming performers, carnival games and street food. Costumes are encouraged, with prizes for the best dressed, so this is your opportunity to give that wildly specific group costume the audience it deserves.
When: Saturday 31 October 2026, doors open at 6pm.
Where: Manning Bar and surrounding festival spaces, University of Sydney, Camperdown. Check your ticket for the entrance to the Manning open-air precinct.
More information: Screamfest at Manning. Strictly 18+.
Home The Venue: two nights to commit to the costume

One outfit, two outings? Economically sensible.
Home has Halloween covered across Friday and Saturday, with em4. X MYST Halloween kicking off the weekend and Homemade Halloween taking the Saturday slot. Choose your night, rally the housemates and give that costume a dancefloor debut.
em4. X MYST Halloween: Friday 30 October 2026, from 9pm.
Homemade Halloween: Saturday 31 October 2026, from 9pm.
Where: Home The Venue, 101/1–5 Wheat Road, Darling Harbour.
More information: Home’s event listings and tickets.
